Although many of the original bespoke tailors have now moved away, unable
to afford the high land tax rates imposed on the district of Mayfair, a
much sort-after area of London, several of the ‘old school’ remain.
Bryan
Manning of Manning & Manning is one tailor who remains loyal to Savile
Row. Still operating premises out of 9-10 Savile Row, Manning & Manning is
well regarded as a true bespoke Savile Row tailor.
The
cachet of having a couture-made suit by a Savile Row tailor continues to
prevail. Taking up to 100 hours or more to create a perfectly fitting suit
of outstanding quality and craftsmanship, it’s something many young
businessmen and women aspire to.
Savile Row also made it’s mark on the world thanks to The Beatles. Having
set up their offices at number three in 1968 and then performing their
last live gig on the roof in 1969, much attention was drawn to this sought
after address.
